My late father was a Stoker/Mechanic P.O. on MTB 07 of the 2nd MTB Flotilla based in Hong Kong. I have been researching the remarkable escape of the legendary one legged Chinese Admiral Chan Chak along with senior officers from battle HQ with the 2nd MTB Flotilla on Christmas Day 1941. More info can be found on my website at: http://www.mwadui.com/HongKong/index_hk.htm

Hello Richard,
Many thanks for placing that link - I personally have felt that the story of the RN's 2nd Flotilla had been largely 'over shadowed' by events in Home Waters and the Med etc - I feel that your work has greatly assisted any serious Students of Allied Coastal Forces and the History of WW2 - Well done
Regards

Greetings Richard from OZ,
This link is really great and the photo's are MUCH better than previous ones I have found. I have done wee little tiny models (600 scale from PT Dockyard) of these early war MTBs and at some future stage they are on the 'to do' list in the larger 144th/72nd/35th scales.
I'm using card models as a basis (for the larger models) and I'm positive I can utilise a mid war BPB MGB kit I have to do these very interesting looking MTBs. Being card all I need to do is redraw the hull shape and using the excellent photo's on your site (of the bridge/charthouse) I should be able to come up with something nice to replicate these boats.
At this stage I have to do any conversions manually as I don't have a working scanner.........yet, Santa may come to the party there. Then I need to learn how to use it.
If you would care to make personal contact, please e-mail me at -- debrogerp@hotmail.com

Do see the above acount on the Yardarm section of the BMPT site, click on the logo at the top of the page, very interesting story of our coastal forces in the far east, what a Christmas present to be ordered off the boat and captured by the Japanese!

Such a shame none of these boats survived to give a real connection to the extraordinary bravery of Cmdr Ashby's flotilla. An intruiging & inspiring tale that you could only guess at what was going through those mens heads at the time. Never having held back an invasion force desperate to die for thier emperor i couldnt guess what it takes to face those odds in a floating bomb, hopefully i never will be in those shoes!! Reckon if hollywood want a good plot for a warfilm they should forget about the 'we won the war alone & saved the world' stuff and just tell the story of the second MTB flotilla RN!!
Those guys should be remembered like the battle of Britain pilots and the st Nazaire raiders. They kept us free until political correctness and the health &safety executive finished the Austrian corporals job lol
The 2nd flottilla are much overlooked and too much forgotten!!

MTB07,
I forgot to say. You must be very proud of your father? The 2nd flotilla were not something from a film or a clive custler book. they were real life heroes!
