Just a little update on my little ship of big money ha! Well 2nd engine running like a dream just little snags like little water leaks etc. but now we have a new gearbox fitted! was going for a Borg Warner 73c but would of had better luck on the lottery.... so managed to get a PRM 750 which weighs a bloody ton! and took 2 of us with ropes jacks and wooden blocks to get the said beasty down into the engine room! eventually we got it fitted to the engine fired her up to see which way was forward.... so the next step is to measure up for the intermedate shaft. so seeing as its rather cold outside I'm fixing cables and wiring to have her running from the helm, she does sound good though with both engines running

Oh didnt make the QDJP later in the year but good luck for those that are going and no doubt see most of all on the river.....

Where Are Those Boats Now : Where is this boat now?

    Author: quattro
Subject: Where is this boat now?
Posted: 29 January 2012 at 3:48pm

Hi, this is my first time on BMPT forum - so I hope this is in the right section to discuss.
my question is, as a teenager in the mid 60's I used to join my family on holidays on our small boat moored at what was King's Boatyard in Horning Norfolk. I remember this very large grey MTB being used as a house boat moored constantly on the opposite bank to Kings Boatyard(but in the same dyke) - I think that side was not owned by King's.

For years I used to tie up my fishing boat to the MTB's large chain and fish in the lily pads for large bream and tench- the fact that it never moved and the boats food waste came out by the lily pads attracted the fish - happy days!

Anyway, my point is where is this boat now? I still marvel at its size compared to others in the yard, and I vaguely remember a number still on its Hull - but I have forgotton now what it was, and I also remember it had various 'shed like' additions to its upperdeck as well as its Torpedo launch tube at the front. Where is that now - any idea's??

Coastal Forces : New Fairmile "D" build

    Author: jimmy p
Subject: New Fairmile "D" build
Posted: 18 January 2012 at 3:56am

Just an idea. Could the pnbt use the bits of these boats as its a working museum? Maybe the side of 458 or similar lost cause mounted on side of a workshed, the chatham dog's nose on front of clubhouse, office ect. sure a use could be found without turning it into the disneyland of warboats. If chatham dog has no interest then i'll remove carcass and make desks from her(condition is one goes to admiralty), don't want to but it means some parts of the old girl will survive. my drawknives, chisels ect are in a chest made from a boat that i was forced to scrap.
Best of luck to a replica 'D'. The fairmiles were the original flatpack (much assembly required) but like many coastal forces warboats were 80% housewife built & 20% shipwright. If the right yard can be found, proper materials & workforce at right price then its def doable. If not we let down that generation as enjoying the advantages they never had. of course common sense in a workforce back then was a lot cheaper than the health & safety stasi forcing you to employ idiots & treat the rest of workforce the same.
Thats my late night rant, Any chance a new Dog will get a pennant number? if its just for a week it only seems right. Best of British to the effort!
