'Twas I that found Miss Margate at a boat shed in Martham, Norfolk, with a tree growing through her. A member of the Association of Dunkirk Little ships took a shine to her, bought her and took her home. As far as I know she is still in his garage awaiting attention. Perhaps one day.....
Richard, Commodore ADLS.

Hello All
While back i spotted a Boat up in Ardlui Marina Boat yard at the Northern End of Loch Lomond, At the time it was covered up in a huge canvas Cover, the cover is almost off due to the recent bad weather... I was told she is some sort of Ex Military Craft when i was in the Boat yard and..sorry about the angle of the pictures the owner of the yard was not too keen for me to mooch about taking pictures.. Will try to get a couple of stern pictures soon Regards Jim. Edited by Jim - 07 April 2012 at 8:18pm |

Just saw this correspondence. I owned Medyna ex MTB 253 from 1976 to 1991, and bought her from Len Rowley, Sue's Father. Remained in constant correspondence with him, and visits till his death. Also in communication with June (Sue's Mother) till long after she moved to Nanaimo, Canada to be near Sue.
She had petrol-paraffin engines when I bought her (8 cyl Chrysler Royals). I did many miles on these, but obtaining fuel got difficult. I re-engined the boat with twin Perkins S6M's (120 hp each) (not P6s as stated above). This gave her max 13 knots, cruising at 11 knots. I took her everywhere (England, France, Belgium, Holland) many years after she should have rotted away, and during my ownership she was flagship of Coastal Forces Veterans Association. I have pictures of our 1981 Return to Base in Newhaven, where she served in the War. The town clerk of Newhaven reckoned we put 2p on the rates there due to all the festivities. Did it again in 1984, and got Mayor of Dieppe to attend in Newhaven, an absolute first. We had free berthing in Dieppe anytime, in centre of town due to wartime connections. Also free berthing in Felixstowe in ship dock (ex HMS Beehive).............just try that now !! When I bought her from Len Rowley, who had had her for 26 years, I said I would never sell her. I actually rang June Rowley in Canada to be released from this promise, so as to sell her, as my best friend had died aboard her, and after over 2 years changing every colour, I never got over this, and moved aboard the 45 footer I also had (ex Lord Mayor of London's state barge, named London City). June told me the best thing I could do was sell her, and released me from that promise. I miss her to this day, though I have never been without a boat since, but Medyna was special. My current Moonraker 36 is hardly the same, but does not take every minute of my life maintaining her either. Medyna did, and I used to say it was like standing under a shower tearing up £20 notes. Today that would be £50 notes. But any later news of the boat will be gratefully received. |
