Hi all

Pictures of Sabre early 1974 after her spell at gun boat yard haslar.

At the yard becuase we ran over a tree of Portland one night and damaged the epoxy coating on the hull and damaged both props, the tree was cut in 3. The hull was stripped back and 3 coats of epoxy applied also new stainless props were fitted as a trial, giving us a top speed of 42 knots, the fastest of the 3 boats at the time.

The following photos were lent to me by the harbour master at the time of sabre's collision at Alderney. Sabre's No. was P275 and this can be seen on the photo. The skipper at the time was Bill Andrews who wrote on the back of one of the photo's, I will never forget Alderney breakwater, and signed both photo's. All the crew we moved of the boat and Bill was left on the boat for 15 days on his own, he was then flown of for court martial and reprimanded. He was given a new post after this behind a desk as chief of navigation.

What a great set of pictures - thank you 'barryg' for sharing them with us - Clearly identifies the boat involved in this 'infamous' accident.

I agree a great set of pictures especially the overhead shot's, mind you a lot less embarassing than colliding with a London Bridge on a Frigate with hundred's of people watching rather than a few fisherman and a couple of seagulls as well as the ever lurking person who just happen's to have a camera with him

If I recieve any more from Alderney I will post them. The first two photo's always hang with pride on my wall, only 12 sets were ever printed one for each crew member along with a pewter tankard.
