I have just found a small/old carved wooden model of an RAF ASR Launch '191' from an antique shop on the Isle of Wight. It is 11" long x 2.7" beam. It is very well made but time has taken its toll and some bits are missing...when time permits I will restore it! Can anyone tell me anything about '191'  or suggest a good website or book about RAF Launches?

Hi Tim

HSL 191 was the prototype Thornycroft 67ft rescue launch. She lasted until a couple of years ago as h/b Tranton at Tollesbury, sadly burnt now. I'd like to see a photo of your model, I'm quite partial to 1/72nd scale. See http://www.rania.co.uk/boat%20photos/ST/RAF-HSLAlbum/page8.h tml

Regards, Christian.

Hi Donald and Tim

Tim sent me a photo to post here;

A charming well-built model, needing a mast and rigging to finish it off, see this picture of a sister vessel (at a much bigger scale) for guidance;

Regards, Christian.
