I'm not too sure whether this will display outside the UK but this is the current link to the BBC clip.

Hi Pioneer,

Very many thanks for this, I was looking on the BBC site to see if they would post there, and clearly they have.., great stuff, do hope as before, they can find the funds, possibly some sort of sponsorship deal, not suggesting a great banner across her, something a bit more subtle for sure, any how, thanks again,

I find this situation somewhat frustrating.

MGB 81 has been owned for some years by the Portsmouth Naval Base Property Trust, I fully realise it tough to find funding but they don't help themselves, about 2 years ago a website went live to raise £70k for repairs, but there was no means to donate, as far as I can see that is still the case.

They find themselves caught in a vicious circle, without the boat working they won't get her into the public eye, which is the whole point and would help to raise funds.

What pains me is the opportunity in the Solent area to bring that boat to the public, starting yacht races, finishing motorboat races, attending boats shows,  taking dignitaries to wreath layings, escorting navy ships, its an endless list of opportunity lost.

Hi there,

Yes....thought that to, an appeal started in 2012 but now....as you say, the Solent is about as busy as it gets, lots of high class stuff going on, not for a second knocking other parts of the country for sure, mine included but still...has to be said, with Portsmouth, to be frank, if people think boating and the navy....., as per before, plans to lay up in a museum post 2014,  as you acknowledge, if it was easy to run ...but to lose chance for 2014 at least. I am PART of a team with the Medway Queen paddler, we took a long time but got the first phase at least....we can only hope still time to sort and the coverage will help  get it done but....

I'm a keen follower of the Medway Queen, checked the webcam in Bristol everyday and she has been a triumph for maritime preservation.

This country's people are keen and interested in maritime preservation, but its only worth doing if we can make the artefacts accessible to those people.

I tried to get PNBPT to bring HSL102 to a powerboat rally I run in the Solent, its the only classic motorboat event in the Solent each year, we offered to pay fuel and provide a qualified skipped, but we couldn't get them to work with us.

In a general sense as a nation we do an excellent job of bringing maritime heritage to the public, I just feel that it could be improved for the WWII fleet in Portsmouth.

Hi there,

Many thanks, yes the cameras were well worthwhile, sorry to hear re HSL102 you could not have offered much more for them to come. Could not agree more as per above, all the best,

Hi there,

Sure thought of by powers that be but....a justgiving web appeal raised £2,000 for sailing barge Westmoreland recently, understand a lot more needed for MGB 81 return to D-day, needs a month to run, if you reach or exceed target, you take the money pledged, but if fall short, you get nothing, but just a thought, still time to run...
