Thanks Christian for info. Looks like Sea-Sure now own the Blakes brand. But thats how I got caught out, saved my pennies, sold the wife and children and invested in those very articles only to find they are not the same!! Still, I have e.mailed Blakes to see what they suggest. Meanwhile back to the blowlamp and hope for the best. Cheers Dave

Seeing some of my ST's timbers have really dried out in the sun, I wondered if anyone tried spraying on a few coats of teak oil on the timbers (over a period of couple of weeks).
My two questions are:- 1). Would applying teak oil restore some of the 'moisture' to the timbers or have the opposite effect of acting as a barrier to the timber absorbing water? 2). There is a builders product (a waterproofer I think) called "Thompsons" that is absorbed into the timber and (apparently) stops expansion/contraction of timber (and therefore stops the timber drying out). Has anyone used a product like this on their boat? Of course I'd already primed one side before these thoughts occured... All advice greatfully received.... Edited by dgray |
