Has anybody come across the following model before. The box claims it to be a model of 2754 which is a Mk 1b RTTL, however the graphics on the box are not entirely accurate showing one large central windscreen.
The model is dated 1961 which is only 5 years after the boat was commissioned, it looks to me be of Soviet/Russian origin. Any thoughts and are there other of the shelf RTTL models out there, I am not up to building from scratch just yet despite Christians master class. Regards Edited by d-zine |

Hi d-zine Master classes are courtesy of Ted Childs, but thanks for the compliment. I've not seen that particular kit, I wonder if it is a rebadged Veron kit. The graphics seem very similar (but flipped) to the Dec 1958 magazine cover shown (the boat featured inside is 2753, prior to conversion to Griffons);
And the Veron kit;
Rgds, Christian.

Hi All, Model dockyard do a new kit for the RTTL but not sure what its like and i think it is an odd scale. The only kit i ever new about was from Veron and they are rare and sell for good money on ebay. I have still got the one i built with my dad in the 70's. Deans Marine do a hull and macs mouldings will be doing a full set of 1/24th deck fittings etc. they already have a 1/12th fittings range for them Along with a plan fron John Lambert. Makes a nice model with twin motors. I'm hooked. I built a 1/12th from scratch and have been commisioned to make two versions of 2758 in 1/24th, as she was and as she is, hence the new fittings from Martin. If you need any help, just shout, although Christian is the expert, he had one! Regards Simon

Hi Simon d-zine bought 2753 off dad. What do you think of the Deans hull- my experience of them is they are well presented with nice shiny gelcoat but are way off when measured up and aren't quite the right shape when compared to photos and plans. I'm curious about 2758- was she sold? I presume so unless the original/current owner wants something to remember her by.

Some photos you may find useful; (note the line of the roof edge is not straight but slightly kinked)

Hi Christian, Good to hear you are still up to speed, i spoke to Chris the other day and he said he was working with you on some new hulls. By Deans own admission the hulls are not 100% accurate, transom is angled to much, therefore a bit to long and she does splay out abit amidships. I would be happier to use my own cad bulkhead plans and build her up as 2757 but the cost of getting them cnc cut and the labour involved does not always warrant the end. 2758 is most still definately around and in fine working order, although nothing like she was built. Having been refitted to a modern looking super yacht she has some interesting lines. She is up for sale i understand, about 450,000 euros but looks in excellent condition. I am making a static model as she was, in Malta, all white. and an rc model of her as she is now. If you send me an email address i will pm some pictures. Any update on your dads old one? Regards Simon

Found a website with this version of the Vosper RTTL Mk1b.
The only fault I can see is that they have given it a number from the first batch 2747-2750 which had a different superstructure. I can't for the life of me find the website again, from memory it was German or Dutch. Another senior blonde moment. Does anybody have experience of these models?
