Hi Guys. First time post, hope you can help. My main interest is WW11 Landing Craft.Im after building an LCI(S). Landing Craft Infantry (Small).I have John Lamberts drawings of the LCI(S) but no info to build a hull.I was told that the Fairmile H was a D type hull, but looking at the drawing of the D type ,at the stern the props and rudder will be below the bottom of the Keel. The H type was intended to beach to land troops then kedge off,so its props and rudder had to be above the bottom of the keel. The H type has a sort of dog leg from the end of the Keel up to the stern. I hope this makes some sence. Any help for plans etc,or were best to post on this Forum. Many Thanks Norm.

Hello 'Norm' Welcome aboard - hope you enjoy the trip. The Fairmile 'H' is described in some detail in Al Ross and John Lambert's excellent book "Allied Coastal Forces of WW2 Volume 1" On page 127 there are 5 line drawings showing Plan and Side Elevation views- one of which does show the positioning of the 2 only Prop Shafts. Although the Volumes are a little expensive I would think that your local Library may have a copy. Worth a try. Best of luck with your modelling |

Hi Norm, Attached are a few photos of the stern area of the LCI(s). As you can see the rudders and props would have been just above the bottom of the keel when it beached. I have been interested in the LCI(s) and LCS(l) Mk 2 for a number of years now and have a few more photos like these. If you have any other questions I’ll try and answer them for you. There are plenty of images of the LCI(s) taken in June 1944 as three or four cameramen from the Army Film & Photographic Unit went over with the Commandos for the D Day landings. Most appear in the more pictorial books on D Day. The Pathe News website has some good footage of the craft. Good luck with your model. Regards Danny

Hi Norm, Glad to hear the photos were of use. Attached are a few more of the bow section. No problem about contacting me by PM with you email address etc. It might save clogging up the forum with photos of LCI(s). I might have seen the photos that you mentioned but would like to see them just in case they are new to me. Regards Danny

Hi there,
Great to see the pics of the Fairmile H and the efforts to model them, just wanted to pitch in my bit about should "we" be looking to get hold of any of these craft before they dissapear? I see the one above is in poor shape and modified a lot to houseboat use, PERHAPS and IF a new base for BMPT is found, COULD provide somewhere for such craft to go, just thought it should be mentioned,

Hello John, Sorry to say that only one LCI(s) is left now, the red one in the photos. This one is located at Shoreham and I have been told that the current occupant is going to have a go at restoring it. Not sure how far he has got and to what extent he plans to restore it though. Would be good to see it in its original condition but I think that might be asking a bit much. The other two in the photos were broken up some time ago. These photos were taken over ten years ago when there were a few more around. Regards Danny |

Hello to the group,
First time in posting, and only joined today. I have been looking for a long time to find information to make a waterline model of the LCI(S) and LCS(L). These photos are fantastic reference. I have the John Lambert Coastal Forces book out from my local library - unfortunately a previous borrower has torn out page 127 which isn't that helpful. I'd be interested to hear if Norm has made any progess or if anyone could help me out locating a copy of that page. I have a set of plans from the Model Dockyard in Truro but this only has a side profile, what I'm really after is a set of lines for the hull. The closest I have is the lines for a Fairmile D - which I was planning to take about 10 foot from the bow to finish it flat. Any help would be most appreciated. Tim |
