HSL 102 and MGB 81

   Just seen latest issue of All at Sea paper in the marina office, great shot of HSL 102 and MGB 81 with a Spitfire above at the Southampton Boatshow, great to see them underway of course, read in the PNBPT historic boat section newsletter on this site, that MGB 81 was being worked on by contractors at the old Camper and Nicholson yard, interesting, but who ever is looking after her, as I say great to see her in such a public role.

	Dear John, Yes it is indeed a pleasure to see those two craft in print, doing their stuff for all to see. Yesterday I called on their previous owner to scrounge bits and pieces for RASC Garth. Over a cup of tea I was able to break the news that MTB 245 was being broken up, notwithstanding the fact that, even a few thousand pounds could'nt be found to save her for another year. What a 'lottery' the National Lottery has become; you can obtain £50,000 to survey a proposed restoration, or the same sum for photographing a project which cannot be restored, but you cannot get a small sum to prolong the life of a British Treasure. I could'nt help wondering why someone would use his own money to save and restore two fine ships without any help from any quarter, then find that his reward for this selfless act was criticism, bad feeling, malicious gossip, even hate. Those who would have liked to see '245 sailing around our coast again would have done better to court the help of this person (as I do with RASC Garth) rather than putting their trust in the Natonal Lottery.
