Ok this one first. Can anyone id the boat with the blue tarp on fore deck? My first thoughts were a whaleback.

Here is another one(the one on the right).

Does the shape look familiar or is it just me?

Hi All,

Great pictures, being a bit dense, were exactly are these taken? of course I know were the D is, its very close to where I live, been meaning to go and have a look in person, possible a few bits might be worth getting hold of for display. I think that perhaps with the new centre at Poole, and I am just thinking aloud I don't speak for any one other than myself, should we be looking at trying to get a programme together of trying to save some of the prime examples of coastal forces vessels? I know this would take money etc and no easy task but..., a "group" action might come to something.

John

I have to admit looking at the grey boat again I am not so sure its of interest to us. It would appear to have straight stem.

As for where the pictures are taken, well there all on the same river as the ‘d’ boat. If you look at Google earth you can see them on the north shore a bit further down steam. There looks to be a residential boatyard there. Some of the boats (including the gray one) seem to have been moved to one side and dumped. Perhaps there the boats that have been abandoned in the yard. Possibly dumped out of the yard due to non payment of fees?

One thing I have noticed while looking at Google earth is how many people buy old dumb lighters to put there boats in!. There also seems to be lot of old concrete barges in use at pontoons.

johnk,

Hi. I would be happy to get involved in a "Group Action". Is the first step a meeting face to face and see what support that brings?

Any other comments anyone.
