I have found some old photos of boats that my late grandfather was involved with as part of ASR in WW2. I was wondering if anyone had any information on the type of boats these were or where to find out more information. I am not sure on his military history as of yet but he was in Gibraltar for a time. Thanks

Hi there,

Many thanks for posting these great pictures, I have no information myself unfortunately, but hope colleagues do and can help, always great to see at least in pictures, the men and their vessels and there work in ASR, all the best.

Hi
I'm sure you'll get lots of replies to these great photos!
'007' is a Fairmile 'D' LRRC (Long Range Rescue Craft).....I have a photo which I will try to attach to this email (?) with LRRC based in Newlyn, Cornwall during WW2. I've seen '007' frequently used as a basis for an R/C model....makes a great model!
If I'm not mistaken, the other photo is of a Thornycroft ASR Launch....nice boats. Please feel free to contact me: tim@deacon427.fsnet.co.uk
