Hello i hope someone may be able to help me. I have found in my loft a half made model boat which looks really well made so i have decided to try and finish the project myself. I have bought all the rc gear but i am still not sure of the exact model of the boat I think it is a vosper thornicroft resue launch boat and i have loked through various websites and there is one listed but the top of the boat is not exactly the same.I am not sure how to post a picture on here but if anyone can help i can send them a picture.Thankyou. |

Hi John, the model you have is one of the AEROKITS RAF CRASH TENDERS. They did two sizes one at 36" and one at 48". The actual boats were No93 and94 built by Vospers in 1952/53 for the RAF Marine Branch. Classed as 46ft.Fire Boat Mk.2, stores Ref. 16F/154. Powered by twin Rover Meteorite MK.203 petrol engines of 375HP at 2,400 RPM. Top speed was 28.5 knots., cruising speed 25.5 knots, 270 gallons of fuel gave a range of 155 miles. They operated with the RAF as experimental craft at Calshot and Felixstowe and were designed as a replacement for the ageing WW2 craft. Both were put on the disposals list in 1958 - their lives ended with the demise of Flying boats and the standardisation of Rolls Royce power plants in all new builds. Any thing else you want to know about the just ask. |
