HSL 142/143

Hi All,

It's my first post here - though I think my other half has been here before.

Anyway, it is with some reluctance that I am contemplating the sale of of Transmare (home page transmare.dragonflyriver.com.

She was a Harbour Steam Launch built at Roehenge Iron Works Colchester about 1912 and she's still in very good nick - we live on her here in Cyprus.

I'd like her to be restored - otherwise all that will remain is the hull.

I'd like her to be back in the UK as part of our navel and maritime history - I understand she's the oldest and slill floating.

Ideas etc. would be appreciated

I think pioneer will be onto this, but suggest you put up an add on the boats for sale section of this site, works well as you will see a number of craft have gone ex Gib and UK, so worth a try.

I was somewhat depressed by having to post. Issues are not that complex - though the emotions are - which prompted the post.

As Kathryn says we have all the hard work of boating but none of the pleasures. To which I agree.

Kathryn's done fantastic research and opened our eyes to a rich vein of boating history - I don't want to see Transmare just rotting away or me failing to keep up with all the work - which I confess I don't have the funds for.

Transmare is a complex of materials and needs to be restored - otherwise it's a rip back to the hull and redesign. Either way that's 3 to 4 years on the hard............

I had thought that there might be a Trust - or something funded by either Lottery or EU money to preserve our maritime history I don't know - I guess I'm not a happy bunny.

Indeed, agree with the above, as a private person you are reliant on your own resources, EU maybe as your are in Cyrprus? but a long shot, for UK funds the vessel would have to be here. Best hope would be sale to a private person with cash/skills/time or a group with same, perhaps register as a charity and then be able to apply for funds. As mentioned before, here a combination of the above have saved and restored some of our vessels. Note National Historic Ships Unit have produced a list of grant giving bodies to apply to, also do some small grants themselves, though you have to be in UK and mostly if not always a registered charity to apply. Sorry can't be more helpfull, the situation is not brillaint, restoration of course one thing, keeping in one piece another!

If you unfortunatly have to sell captaindc you can now claim "as seen on television" as she was on last night moored next to"Aphrodite" the programme she was shown on was "A Place in the Sun"!!!!
