Jimmyp has asked me to post as he is not near a computer. He has aquired Pride of the Dart and a small grant to help with work on her. He has also aquired Alfred Roach and is in the process of breaking her to take the hardwear and any spare wood (not rotten) to install inb POD. He would be greatfull for an physical help he can get either on Isle of White for break up or Dartmouth for reassembly. Also if anyone has any Thornycroft manuals or a source of Thornycroft spares he would like to know. Further he needs to recopper the bottom. Any ideas for suppliers/costs. Any replies to me please and I will pass them on. Edited by S R Wilson |

Wessex resins do an additive for epoxy coating called 'coppersheild' I think. I only know one person who has used it and he says the crud just washes off the bottom easily every year. probably best to leave things like buying copper or epoxies as one of the final things before launching.

There's 3/4 of the copper sheathing still present, where she hit rocks only counts for 1/4 of the hull, hence the port fwd 1/4 is no longer copper sheathed, it'd be ideal if the same copper sheet could be used to cover the damaged portion after it's been repaired (which required 3 planks fixing in place (they're already steamed to shape) and 3 making and fixing, the matter of plank shrinkage needs to be noted before sheathing as the whole boat has shrunk, especially the section that's been uncovered. I've spoken to Jim regularly about the project and he's got a month (as of tomorrow) of free storage and free lift, unfortunatley Alfred Roach isn't going quite so smoothly as planned, I had offered to hlep him down there but am busy from wednesday on. I'm sure help would be very appreciated, I've pledged a weekend or two to help with fixing some planks in place and anything Jim needs help with.

Hi there,
Great to read all the above re POD, jimmy seems to be really getting stuck in, saw Alfred Roach was being broken, did not realise by whom! great also you have got some monies and some free time ashore plus a lift, glad the yard is being supportive in that respect, should be noted, wish more would be so accomodating to such craft. All good stuff as they say,

Hi all,
Where on the IoW is Alfred Roach? Cant really help with the labour or the owners manuals but Dad and I will be taking Hyperion down to Dartmouth in a few weeks time and could possibly help transport any bits that are just a bit too big to fit in a car but not worth hiring a lorry for. Entire engines and the like are obviously out but anything that would fit in the aft cockpit and can be slung / manhandled shouldn't pose too many problems. Failing that if we're in the same area at the same time then at the very least we'll come and say Hi! Cheers Gareth |

Thanks Don Nasty little bu**ers!! Just wondered why HDML's got special treatment, I guess their slow speed meant sheathing would stay put although the Gib HDML seems to have had a close call recently! M |

I thought most ww2 boats were copper sheathed, Lemberg is copper sheather, the fairmile B's I believe were, beyond these I don't know specifically.
Cowes, currently up river a little but going to be brought into cowes for breaking. Edited by rozm2 |
