 HI,

I am diver and I am trying to trace the history of MTB 54  and TRIFELS SS (1922-1941 german steamer) . Sunk 1941-09-09 near Belgium

I would like to find some informations about MTB 54 and some pictures of the torpedo boat and his crew

Hope you can help

Any info greatly appreciated

Hello JP-B, Welcome aboard.

What I can begin with is that MTB54 was a Thornycroft built boat - ordered on  Sept 1939 completed July 1941 (some time to build - probably a prototype?) She served at HMS Hornet Gosport until 1942 when she was taken over by the Army and became RASC "Montaugan" Her first RN Commanding Officer was Lt JD Wardle. I shall try and dig out some photo's of her (or her type) - maybe someone can fill in a few more details, especially on the German boat. There is a brief mention of MTB 54 in L Reynolds book "Home Waters MTB's at War"in which he states that she had a Norwegian CO and crew.
