My late father served on 2603 in the Red Sea in 1945 to 1946. I have mislaid all his photos from his tour there but do have the book "The RAF Air Sea Rescue Service 1918-1986" by Jon Sutherland which has a photo that shows dad on 2603. I want to make a model of Dad's boat does anyone have any photos or information?

Thanks Christian, your photo is of the sister boat, the book has another photo showing the sterns of 2603 and 2604. Dad was standing on 2603.

I was given a model of a Hants and Dorset at the weekend by a club mate but the model didn't look right. Searching the internet I found it was of the 68 foot Vosper RTTL. There are a lot of similarity to the Hants and Dorset, did Vosper develop the earlier BPB design to make this?

Hi Gerryt

George Selman was the brains behind the BPB H&D and was also on the team at Vosper who penned the RTTL,hence the similarities.See my 1/24th scale models of both by clicking on the www button below for comparative pics. The Vospers were far beamier aft.The H&D performed better when they both had the same powerplants.Use John Pritchard plans set ref 1358 for your model, try Nick Tonkin at mailto:post@model-dockyard.com - post@model-dockyard.com

Good luck!

Hi there

My late father also served in 2603 at Mersa Matruh. He joined up on 07/07/41 and was in Egypt from 13/08/43 - 1/06/46.
