Hi Don
Your link comes up as WW2 Fairmile minelayer. Has the ST been removed? Could be Swift ex ST 445 in Bristol.
Regards,Christian.

Hi folks,
I'm new to the forum and not so good with computers, better with spanners and engines so you might have to bear with me a bit slow. However, Jamaican moon, the minelayer is not far from me in St Osyth so I might go and have a look this weekend. I've tried to call the vendor but apparently he's taken his phone swimming! Anyone know anything about her?
Alex.

Hi Christian,
Sorry, don't know what happened with the link.
Try these links below or type "historic rescue" in the ebay search box.

Hi Alex
Jamaican Moon was ML 357, built in 1942 in Egypt by Anglo-American Tourist Co. She is now in a good original state considering her age but is not considered seaworthy.Boats of her flotilla are mentioned in "Inshore Heroes" as the minesweepers for the Elba invasion preparations. If you're going that way, please take some snaps of her, the Ham Class IMS alongside her and also the 68ft Target Tower (a Hants and Dorset) called Calypso which should be closeby too.My e-mail address to send full-size pics to is
Thanks, Christian.

Hi Don
Thanks for that, historic rescue works fine. She doesn't look as though she is the Swift, will try to find out ID. Certainly looks like a broad-beam even though the beam mentioned implies narrow-beam,what do you think?

Christian.

Christian,
With luck I'll have an afternoon to myself in that neck of the woods next weekend so I'll liberate the girlfriend's camera for a while and see what I can get.

Hi Christian,
The ST on ebay is likely to be Swift as the yard man says it's been around Bristol for years. Is anything known about her service record?
My wife would have kittens if I brought another ST home.
The chap in the yard paced out the measurements so I'm not sure what her dimensions are.

Was she a BPB boat? Did Vospers or Thornycroft make ST's durunbg the war?
Cheers Don

Hi Don
Yes, she is a BPB, as is Swift but they have very different upperworks, Swift being almost totally original. I think it's a different boat. Vosper and Thornycroft did build STs too, but not many (Vosper only 2 I think). You can tell a BPB by the hull shape fwd and rudders if they're original;

Quite unique!

Has anyone managed to go and look her over yet , the auction has ended with no bidders and I've asked the seller for some extra time but unless someone is close enough to look her over it looks like she's going to be firewood soon

I spoke to Kev and asked him a few questions about her. He didn't know much. Another sale in lieu of fees. He said that he'd find out about lift costs and when she would have to be moved etc. She's a big project but looks worth it.
Well worth a visit. He said he'd call me this week with more info. I'll post it when he does.

I'm not interested in owning her...Are you?
Re West Mersea, not a dickie from anyone (other than yourself) with any offer of help including the relevant associations. Mind you they are getting a lot older so I don't blame them one little bit.
Duxford/Imperial War Museum assured me that they wouldn't be having any more boats aft Duxford.
Too much to do on my own I fear. A real shame but apathy rules.

I know all about the 'Apathy Rules' situation , it's a shame though
This one at least is in better nick . If someone was closer and could take a proper look I might be able to save her from the chainsaw , but still waiting to hear from the owner

She IS the Swift, ex ST 445.The above pictures are from Ron Young's collection, the top photo from 20 years ago at Burlesdon and the lower two from 10 years ago at Bristol Docks.
How sad she is in such a state now.
Regards,Christian.

Hi Don
Certainly a broad-beam 41.5ft boat, will look her up over the w/e as Dad has all the good books at his place !
Watched the video For Those In Peril again, can't get over the superb footage, thanks again.
Best Regards,Christian.

Thanks Christian, Well I still feel like a heel re '32. Sale fell through on my Benetti again so I'm still stuck.
Maybe a Derby class would be the best thing for me as they aren't so big. Blue Peter type. Humorist is on at £35k but that is a bit rich for me.
Cheers Don

Hi Christian
If you can let me know what state shes in , I may be interested in trying to save her , although I think the price asked was a bit steep for a historic vessel in need of loads of work . If the other option is to scrap her , would he rather just let her go
Cheers

Hi Christian,
RE the St in Bristol. Is that an RDF ariel in the top photo? If tes, would that possibly make her an ASR boat?
If you have a better photo of her, I'd love to see it.
Regards
Don

Hi Dave,
FYI, I spoke to Kev today about the ST. Said 2-3 people were coming to see her this weekend. One is a friend of owner of 'Gay Archer' and, if he gets her, plans to take her down there, restore her and show her beside Gay Archer.
Of course he may not buy it but I thought you'd want to know.
Cheers

I've been told that a few Seaplane Tenders were involved with the Canadian raid on Dieppe. Does anyone know which craft were involved?
Thanks Don
