Hi All

Spotted this one for sale...not quite an ST but very similar and the construction is interesting, diagonal on oak, rebuilt and sheathed.

Hi,

 I asked a question on another forum about MASB 32 and got a reply that she went to Dunkirk before she was built I think we established there was a mix up with a seaplane tender is this correct? here is the last reply..

The Dunkirk Little Ships were given pennant numbers, I should think the vessel being referred to was one of them, or perhaps one of the many and varied craft the RAF inherited from the RN.

The answer to the above is that the Boat with the 32 designation is the prototype pinnace built in 1935 by Thornycroft at 56ft in length she was at Ramsgate and went to Dunkirk but her props were fouled and she returned and took no further part in the evacuation, however it is still a mystery in regards to the "S" designation although I am fairly convinced that the "S" was in regards to the M.A.S.B. role it would appear that they may have used it throughout their Service career no matter what they were doing to save confusion with M.T.B/ M.G.B.s with the same number and as I have since seen a photo of another boat with the "S" designation which was apparently on Special Duties laid up after the War still with the"S" on, it may well be true regarding S32
