Sorry Don, Fast Boats And Flying Boats gives the first (Oct 1940-Sept 1941) 41ft6" STs as batch ST 357-366 but no yard numbers are given. The second batch during the same period were ST 436-439, with yard numbers 1846-1849. I think it is therefore a safe guess to say she was one of the 357-366 batch, but which one. Perhaps rafwebfoot will know?

Thanks Christian,

I hope you can help Donald!   I'll get pictures of her up tomorrow.
Hull not too bad at all. The caravan on top, I'll replace.

Don't despair, ST 358 from the same batch was identified somehow, if her yard number is known yours can be identified from that presumably. Congratulations on your new family member anyway! Even better she may be from the first batch, I can't wait to find out her history!

ST 358;

Don, Philip Simons says the following;

If Don has found 1762, then that makes her Seaplane Tender ST 365

Congratulations Don on the lastest addition to the fleet, I feel sure you'll do her justice, I'll be interested to see the photos.

Does anyone know any more about 358, her present wherabouts, she looks like she could do with some TLC in the photo, I'm really warming to the little ST's, must try to get an HDML first though!

Thanks Christian/Philip. Very much appreciated.

Donald (RAFWebfoot) has sent some more data:

"She was RAF. 365 a Mk.1 type on charge with the RAF on 12/07/1941. Converted to an RSL in the 1950s  and struck off charge 16/01/1957.  She as for sale at No. 1112 MCU Tayport in Feb. 1957."

I've put a few photos at: www.rania.co.uk/ST365

Thanks Donald for the info.

Looks good Don, hull timbers seem fair. Your 32 footer is looking superb! Have you found any service pictures of 365 yet? A new name? Yedaysar is my first goofy suggestion for 365 days in a year.

Hi Christian,
Frames are  good  - about 30 yards of planking to change.  Just wave damage to unpainted timber over years really.

They added a keel/beaching legs at some stage that I'll probably leave on her.

She's huge compared to the '32  tender. Funnily enough I was removing a section of rubbing strake from the 32' and the hull is painted black underneath  ( original rubbing  strake from what I can tell).
I expected that, like most boats of the time, she was seconded for the duration  but  black paint topsides under the rubbing strake seems curious.

I think I've got a brace of 4236's/Borg Warner boxes for the 32'.

Cheers

Looking good Don, quite a nice collection there. Have to say I like the look of those beaching legs. Wonder if they will help keep her running in a straight line. Perhaps even make her faster?

Don, from the photo the wheelhouse addition seems to have good quality windows, can you re-use them (turned upside-down) on the replica original? They look about the right size. It also looks generally in good shape, if you don't re-use the windows, and cut it off in one piece, you may be able sell it on e-bay for someone else's project!

Hi Don,

Nice hoist! looks like a travel hoist without the engine or hydraulics to go wrong, a gantry and slings must be by far the best way to lift a wooden boat, well done!

Hi Christian,

I'll try to get the cabin off in one piect. The only thing I need from it is the Kent screen.

I haven't checked exactly but it seems that only the 8 oval cabin side windows will work. They are about 2 inches longer than the originals  but I think I'll have to use them as I've nothing else.

She's missing a lot

Props, engines/boxes, wheel and pretty much all original fittings. I'll have to go to a boatjumble.

Anyone know of a good one?

Regards

Hi Don,

props all depend on what HP your engines hav and also wether you have reduction 'boxes. another factor is how much room you have to swing a propellor before you hit the bottom of the boat.

Hello again,

the ST on ebay (Robert) has 140HP driving 16X16 props, it does not say what 'boxes she has and she is 39feet which would not make much difference.

Thanks Clive...  I was thinking of getting some S6m's but they are thin on the ground and mostly clapped out by now. I was wondering what the original props/boxes were.

I have a brace of Ford 6 Cyl Turbo Diesels  that should be about right and they have "selfchanging" gearboxes fitted. I'll look and see if the ratio is mentioned under the rust.

Cheers

Hi All,

Bought a Bedford QLB to tow the little ST around (subject to Health and Safety, DVLA licensing, the phase of the moon, blah, blah) next summer. Well that's the plan anyway.  The long and the short of it is that ST365 ( EX-ASR)  is available to a good home for a break-even cost or a trade.

I bought her to save her as the owner was going to burn her (see this forum).   I haven't the time to do her up and  it's a shame to see her just sitting there.

I've got a pair of Ford 160+ HP TD engines/boxes that were running takeouts and in good condition. Turbos might need rebuilding but they are easy to come by.

Would trade up/down  for a '39-'45 MOD vehicle or bike. Maybe a working  mini-digger.  I'm  kind of  interested in getting a DUKW or  anything ambhibious and  have a completely restored M21 and an original BSA A7  to add to the trade if interested.

If sold, I'll make a donation to BMPT.   She's on Milweb too

It's a great chance to get your own boat....  I'l load her onto your trailer free!

Give me a call on 01842 829000  or pm me.

Cheers
Don

Hi All,
Looking for a good home for ST365.   No engines/props but very sound.
Will trade pretty much anything for her as I need the space.  PM me please.
Thanks

Hi All,
I have an incomplete set of drawings for a BPB widebeam Seaplane tender.
They were by John Pritchard. I need to order a new set of A0 drawings but cannot find where to order them.  The model shops online only do A3 which isn't good enough for a 1:1 scale  model (with my eyesight anyway). I've ordered the A3 set as a backup but does anyone know where I can but a set of A0 ones?
Thanks
Don

Hi Don,
I thought you had a set of drawings for HSL 145 and the ST, the ST were the BPB copies from Grenwich which were in your garage, could you not a model from them?

Hi Clive,
Thanks, those are the now "incomplete" A0 drawings. Somehow,  the drawings of the cab/side are missing...   I'll get back on to Greenwich. Thanks for the memory jog!!

Cheers

The drawings arrived from www.myhobbystore.co.uk  in this morning's post.  Instead of A3 as promised they were the full A0 size and consist of 4 pages.

Has anyone got drawings from the Maritime museum in Greenwich?   Just wondering if they have original BPB Co drawings?

Loads of other drawings at:

Hi Don,
Thanks for that, I do have a set of model drawings, I had trouble getting copies of the original build plans for me to make a 'proper' Wheelhouse for '32, I thought I would just get copies of HSL 145 plans and build t to the profile of the MASB.

All the best, Clive.
