not sure where to post this so here will do for starters, slight change of name but its still me, lost my password and had to re register.
For those interested in repairs restoration to these lovely boats we now have RAF Pinnace 1392 in our workshop and have started the job of repairing her hull damage.
As with MASB 32 we will of course be placing up dated pics and info on our web site http://www.newson.co.uk - www.newson.co.uk   and in the not to distant future will arrange a day [on a weekend] when anyone interested can have a visit and will show how its done. [well not all because I would be out of work if I did that]. MTB 102 is here also and Richard may show you round her also.
Lots to do port and starboard and this involves engines out along with gen sets etc wheel house was removed to get her here from Grimsby so that needs to go back on and all electrics and steering.

Great to see you "back" can really recomend going to the web-site and seeing another classic vessel being restored, albeit post a disasterous lift!, sounds like a lot of work to be done, all good stuff.

Tours of 102 will be available as long as we are not out churning up the oceans as MTBs do (did).

you know, i often wondered what would happen to 1374 if we tried to lift her without the lifting chocks in place... I'm glad we never tried it

You do not need the lifting chocks you just need to know where to lift and use 4 strops big and wide with the strops fitted with loose sleeves, as seen in the pics of her being lifted at Lowestoft Haven. If in doubt you need to have the boat slipped on a cradle that supports the keel along its length.

yes, i remember using cradles at Mount Batten for them but at Holyhead they had to be lifted, no slipway....

As i recall there were small brass plates screwed to the gunwhale to show where to place the lifting strops or to line up with the docking posts on a cradle.
