Richard had this plea for assistance regarding an RAF Launch _
Re Hythe Marina Static RAF Launch

I hope you can help

Sadly the RAF launch on display at the Marina is coming to the end of its natural life , we have over the years tried to keep on top of it however the costs to maintain it have increased significantly.

I wonder if you could put some feelers out to whether you know of
1) group/body who would like to take it on as a project
2) If you can think of a suitable replacement of the Launch, for example another vessel, large anchors, marker bouys etc

If you have any thoughts ,ideas on this project......I am open all ears!

Kind regards
Richard [Marshall]

Any serious offers of help should be made to Richard Hellyer at mailto:pathfinder@safemariner.co.uk - pathfinder@safemariner.co.uk

Yes, Richard sent this one to me personally, along with others, part of the MDL group of companies which I work for, but not got around to seeing in the flesh so to speak, though seen pics. Looked like she was buried in the ground? so what the hull is like below....albeit depends how I guesss, old light ship in Southampton, metal I know, but was protected by layer of shingle I think so was not to bad, believe they were going to move it a while ago...any way, not much to add really, be nice if it could be rescued.

Happy to lend a few days if somebody wants a serious crack at her. unfortunately all but petty cash tied up til after christmas or would have a serious ponder on it. Could MDL use her as a promotional tool if an interested party restored her in situ & put a notice board of history ect next to her?
Shame they don't want her working for them, she'd upstage quiet a few boats at cowes week if she was original except an MDL pennant & diesels. Corporate trips with profits going to help the heroes could be great publicity & another boat safe (all tax deductable i assume as charity & advertising).
How bad is the old girl?

Hi Jimmy,

MLD do actually run a launch on the Thames or did, not hear a lot about her lately, clearly the Hythe team do not want to expend any more time and money on her, as mentioned not actually see her for myself but only pictures, hope to get down to see Medusa so willl try and have a look the, but from pics buried in the ground so what the hull is like underneath if any still there! clearly just kept painted up for show which is not a criticism, as MDL would clearly say, they are not a boat preservation or restoration organisation!
