Just to clear things up - on this thread at least - the bmpt IS still a Charity, the Charity number changed and 'Everyclick.com' did not notice and presumed that the Charity status had lapsed - Not So!! Edited by Pioneer - 31 May 2008 at 9:30pm |

Hello pioneer, the reason why I asked about the status of BMPT and the "ownership" of 1502 is because I have a Customer who is interested in purchasing a DECENTLY restored classic boat like 1502 if she was made available, for Classic Boat events.

Hi All,
Just saw S130 on todays news on the BBC all be it at 0630hrs. Only a few minutes but interesting must have been a slow news day. Should still be available on BBC News web site. Best of luck with the restoration, I hope you do not have the same problems that an american did restoring a Japanese Zero, it kept getting sabotaged.
Yours aye

Hello 'BlueLancer'
Yes I saw that interview - some of the story can be seen at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/devon/7828217.stm
I do applaud the effort (and expence) that Mr Kevin Wheatcroft and his associates are putting into this project - well done to them - but I do get a little niggley when so called 'facts' are spouted about the 'Exercise Tiger' tragedy.
In the interview, it was quoted (by the interviewer - not Mr Wheatcroft) that 10 times the casualties of the actual landing on 'Utah' beach head were experienced in this 'attack' - Not so! - it can be found, with a little research, that the casualty figure for the Utah landing was in the region of 240 - This may appear a little pedantic - but these 'facts' distort the tragedy for any future students of History. By not even giving a mention of the beach head shelling by the RN and USN - where an unknown number of casualties fell - (these were real people too!), this very successful attack on a relatively smaller 'follow up' convoy has taken the spotlight away from culpable (in my opinion) Staff Officers of both Navy's. Couldn't agree more the BBC used to be known for its factual content, do they still use researchers?. They seem to go more for sensation than truth, but the truth will out, when you have knowledgable people keeping an eye on them.

Hi there,
Got back yesterday from seeing S130 at Southdown in Cornwall, quite a trip in a day! I meet with the chief shipwright John Owles and Keving Wheatcroft the owner, quite a set up I have to say, and althoug I know not perhaps popular with everyone which I can understand, he is walking the walk so to speak and putting up his money. Believe in fact though would need this confirmned, that the heritage lottery fund is putting up monies to buy the MGB 81 and HLS 102, this was allueded to by the PNBPT in the papers we got before the BMPT merged. Well, better than the bonfire the owner was threatning, although perhaps a ploy, which seems to have worked I guess. Also of course the ongoing work to run and restore MTB 102 and Medusa, the above in know way diminishes my admiration and has to be said, minimal direct support, they to are walking the walk for our coastal forces heritage.

Only yield when you must, never "give up the ship," but fight on to the last "with a stiff upper lip!"
